Delegation from the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP), Kazakhstan, Visits RECAS
On Monday, May 11, 2026, Dr. Sayabek Sakhiyev, Director General of the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Dr. Asset Shaimerdenov, Head of the Laboratory of Atomic Energy Safety Problems of the INP, paid a courtesy visit to President Yasuhiro Sagawa of Ibaraki University, followed by a visit to the Research and Education Center for Atomic Sciences (RECAS).
This visit was conducted with the aim of strengthening collaboration between the two institutions and exchanging views toward the future conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
During the meeting held at the Ibaraki University Tokai Satellite Campus, Professor Kazuaki Iwasa, Director of RECAS, first provided an overview of the Center’s research and educational activities. He highlighted RECAS’s initiatives in quantum beam-based research and education, its efforts in the field of nuclear science, and the current status of its international collaborations.
In response, Dr. Sakhiyev introduced Kazakhstan’s national policies for revitalizing the nuclear sector, initiatives for human resource development, and recent developments related to the research reactor operated by INP. This was followed by an active exchange of opinions regarding potential areas for future collaboration between the two institutions. During the discussion, the INP side expressed a strong willingness to promote joint research activities, including the acceptance of students from Ibaraki University.
Through this visit, both institutions further deepened their mutual understanding and established a shared recognition of the potential for concrete collaboration in research and education.
